Good source without whey; High protein with optional whey (about 21 g) or with 10 g skimmed milk powder per serving (about 13 g; see Boost). Added sugar is from honey (6 g) and dark chocolate (2 g). Values checked against IFCT 2017 on 15 Oct 2026.

Ingredients

  • 250 g hung curd, chilled
  • 15 g unsweetened cocoa powder · 15 g dark chocolate (70%), melted
  • 15 g honey · ½ tsp vanilla · pinch of salt · optional: 30 g unflavoured or chocolate whey (15 g per serving)
  • Optional garnish: a few pomegranate seeds or a sprinkle of coffee powder

Method

  1. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over hot water (or in 15-second microwave bursts). Cool 2 minutes.
  2. Sift the cocoa into the hung curd. Add honey, vanilla, salt and whey (if using).
  3. Whisk until smooth, then whisk in the melted chocolate quickly so it doesn't set in streaks.
  4. Spoon into two glasses. Chill at least 1 hour; it firms to a mousse-like texture.

Protein optimisation

  • Hung curd supplies 7 g per serving; cocoa and chocolate 2 g.
  • Boost: whey as above (+12 g protein, +60 kcal per serving), or whisk in 10 g skimmed milk powder per serving (+3.5 g protein, +35 kcal).

Variations, serving and storage

  • Flavour: mocha — add ½ tsp instant coffee dissolved in 1 tsp hot water; or orange zest.
  • Substitution: Greek yogurt for hung curd; 2 soft dates blended in for the honey (similar sugar).
  • Storage: 2 days refrigerated.
  • Food safety: keep chilled; don't leave out for more than 2 hours.
  • Meal prep: excellent.
